Angelina Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Caesarean section last night around 8pm France time. Her OBGYN told the AP on Sunday morning that the boy weighed a little over 5 pounds and the girl 5 pounds. Pitt was there during the operation, said the doctor, who delivered the twins at the seaside Lenval hospital in Nice in southern France.
"Everything is going well," said doctor Michel Sussmann. "The mother, the babies, the father are doing marvelously well."
Sussman said he believed the baby girl's middle name was chosen in honor of Jolie's mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, who died in January 2007 after a 7 1/2-year battle with cancer.
The town's local paper, Nice Matin, broke news of the babies arrival and says the couple will sell exclusive rights to the first pictures of the babies to a U.S. publication (my guess is People magazine) and proceeds will go to charity. Prior to the birth the couple moved into an estate in the French hamlet of Miraval in Correns (60 miles from Nice) which is just a short helicopter ride to the hospital.
