The National Amusement Park Ride Safety Act, sponsored by representative Ed Markey, would give the Cosumer Product Safety Commission authority over amusement parks if passed. The CSPC has jurisdiction over carnival rides that tour around the nation but not one's located on permanent grounds. The act would allow the CPSC to investigate accidents, develop and enforce plans to prevent defects and require proper reporting when a ride is deemed a hazard.
