A boss at a state office in California asked her secretary to be a surrogate mother for her and when she declined, she faced discrimination, according to a recently filed charge. Anne Richardson, the chairwoman in her fifties, called her secretary Claire Connelly into her office in September to offer her $10,000 to have a baby for her. After deliberating, Connelly, a 31 year-old single mother, declined. After that, she said she faced harassment and workplace retaliation at the hands of her boss. Other employees have come forth with cases of harassment. Regardless, the state Senate confirmed Richardson to a second four- year term. Richardson has offered to step down and Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote, "I will soon appoint a new chair for the board…and the entire board will receive additional (sex harassment) training before its next meeting."
